Repeat Prescriptions

Your repeat prescription may be renewed without necessarily seeing the doctor.  Requests for prescriptions can be made on your local surgery’s prescription line answering machine:

Patients may also use the link on our home page to submit electronic repeat prescription requests via our online patient services webpage. If you are not already registered for this service patients can do so by contacting their local surgery.

Requests are processed every working day. Patients should allow a minimum of 2 working days to collect their signed prescription. It may take longer than this for items to be dispensed and available for collection from the local pharmacy.

Please note - non-repeat items, i.e. those for which you do not have a valid re-order form, may require you to have an appointment before they can be reissued and will therefore take longer before they are available for collection. Any valid repeat items must be reviewed at least once a year.

Dispensing Medication

This practice was a dispensing practice up to 18 November 2011. Previously prescriptions of all commonly used drugs were made up in the dispensary on surgery premises. That is no longer the case.

The nearest pharmacies are in Gairloch, Ullapool, Dingwall or Kyle. The Gairloch Pharmacy will offer to pick up signed prescriptions and dispense them ready for collection.

Patients always retain the choice to collect their signed prescriptions from either surgery site and then take them to the pharmacy of their choice for dispensing.

1. Order your medication from the Surgery and collect it in person from Gairloch Pharmacy
2. Collect your signed prescription from the surgery and take it to the pharmacy of your choice for dispensing

From 1st April 2011 the charge for dispensing medication in Scotland (previously £3 per item for patients who do not qualify for an exemption) was abolished.

Patients may still be required to pay for certain non-NHS services such as travel vaccinations and insurance or employment medical reports.

Please note we are not able to accept credit or debit card payments.

Visitors from England should be aware that if they present an English prescription at a Scottish Pharmacy then they will be charged the appropriate charge, as if they were still south of the border. If you qualify for an exemption from payment then evidence will need to be shown as usual.

Please allow a minimum of 2 working days, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed once we have received it. Any problems please telephone the surgery. If your request is not for an authorised repeat item then it may take significantly longer to deal with.

If your request was for a non-repeat item, i.e. one for which you do not have a valid re-order form, then you may be required to have an appointment before the item can be reissued. All repeat items must be reviewed by a clinician at least once a year.
